Meet Kareem

Simi Valley is Home.

Simi Valley has been my home for nearly 40 years. I grew up here playing sports, learning leadership and service through Boy Scouts, attending Simi schools, and graduated as a valedictorian from Royal High School. This community helped shape who I am, teaching me the values of teamwork, service, and hard work.

After high school, I went on to study mechanical engineering at UCLA and earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from USC. For nearly 20 years, I’ve worked for a top national construction company, helping deliver hospitals, cancer treatment centers, and medical buildings that serve communities and save lives. I’m an executive and lead our healthcare division for the greater Los Angeles area. My wife Jamie also grew up in Simi Valley, and today we’re proud to be raising our two children here alongside much of our extended family. Simi Valley isn’t just where we live, it’s where our roots are, where our future is, and where I’m committed to making a difference.

I’ve spent the past eight years as an elected Simi School Board Trustee, serving 15,000 students and their families, supporting more than 2,000 employees, and building relationships with the broader Simi Valley community. Along the way, I’ve served on numerous foundations, boards, and community committees because I believe strongly in giving back and helping our city thrive. Outside of public service, I’m a lifelong sports fan, cheering on the Dodgers, Lakers, Rams, Kings, LAFC, UCLA, and USC. I love staying involved by coaching, volunteering, and being present in the community I’m proud to call home.

Experience, Vision, Real Impact.

  • Simi Valley deserves a Mayor who understands how to lead complex organizations, protect public resources, and plan for the long term, while staying grounded in the needs of residents. I’m running for Mayor because I believe my experience in elected service, governance, and large‑scale project leadership uniquely prepares me to guide Simi Valley through its next chapter.

For more than a decade, I’ve worked at the intersection of public accountability, infrastructure, and community service. I’ve seen firsthand how good decisions create stability, and how poor planning leads to higher costs, greater risk, and missed opportunities. As Mayor, my focus will be on safety, fiscal responsibility, economic vitality, and doing the hard work required to get results.

  • I currently serve as a three‑time elected Trustee of the Simi Valley Unified School District, including service as Board President. In that role, I’ve been responsible for governance, policy leadership, and fiduciary oversight of a large public institution that serves thousands of families.

That experience matters. Being Mayor isn’t about slogans—it’s about:

    • Setting priorities

    • Ensuring accountability

    • Managing public resources responsibly

    • Making decisions that hold up under scrutiny

As Board President, I led public meetings, worked closely with executive leadership, balanced competing interests, and made decisions with long‑term consequences. Those same skills are essential to leading a city.

  • Professionally, I serve as a Project Executive and Healthcare Core Market Leader at a top national construction company, where I provide executive oversight of complex, high‑risk capital projects on active medical campuses throughout California.

    My work involves:

    • Managing hundreds of millions of dollars in capital investment

    • Coordinating between public agencies, professionals, labor, and stakeholders

    • Delivering projects in highly regulated environments

    • Anticipating risk, controlling costs, and ensuring continuity of operations

This experience directly translates to city leadership, especially when it comes to infrastructure resilience, emergency preparedness, public safety facilities, and long‑range planning. Cities, like hospitals, must function under pressure. Planning for all contingencies is part of responsible leadership.

  • I’m not running for Mayor to learn on the job. I’m running because I’ve already spent years:

    • Governing public institutions

    • Managing large budgets and long‑term assets

    • Working in regulated, high‑stakes environments

    • Serving this community as an elected official

    • Developing important relationships that will foster collaboration and results

Simi Valley needs leadership that can plan ahead, manage risk, and make tough decisions with confidence and transparency. I am ready to do that work.

That’s why I’m running to be your Mayor.
